Jen and Ryan live in Ouray, CO, with their son Alex, dogs Silverton and Minnie, and cats Finn and Hazel. They formed Single Step Running in 2025 as a way to share their love of trail running and the training process with others.
Jen and Ryan have been competing in trail running events for more than a decade, each completing distances up to 100 miles.

Ryan has been running since he was in 7th grade. He ventured into trail and ultrarunning in 2013. Ryan's unique claim to "fame" in the ultra-niche world is being the first person to fully complete The Sneffels Round, an ultra-length peak bagging event that traverses The San Juan Mountains. He has also finished the Ouray 100, which is arguably the toughest mountain 100 out there.
Ryan is eager to work with athletes of all skill levels and backgrounds, but he has a particular interest in working with Masters+ ultra athletes who aim to extend their running careers and stave off the inevitable effects of aging for as long as they can.

Jen started running in 2013, during her early 30s. Running has never come naturally or easy for Jen, yet she has managed to conquer ultra distances up to 100 miles through consistent, steady training. While she lives and trains in the mountains, she has also developed a love for running in the desert!
Jen is passionate about establishing and reaching challenging goals, whether it's setting a new personal record or conquering a new race distance. She is eager to work with athletes who aspire to achieve bold and daunting goals!
